A career built on public service and practical courtroom experience
Scott Edwards has spent decades helping clients and communities navigate complex legal disputes with clarity, preparation, and respect for the process. He earned his law degree with honors from the University of Washington after graduating from Princeton University magna cum laude, where he was awarded the Paul Volcker award in economics. He advances understanding and technical expertise in the area of State and Local Tax as an adjunct professor at the University of Washington Law School. He is running to bring that same rigor and analytical approach to the Washington Supreme Court.

Roots
Early life shaped by public service
Scott grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, where his father served as Alaska Attorney General (1968โ1970) and later as U.S. Attorney (1971โ1978). From an early age, Scott saw how public institutions work best when leaders follow the law and serve peopleโnot politics.
Practice
Decades of litigation experience
As a Partner at Ballard Spahr in Seattle, Scott has built a career on careful legal analysis, persuasive advocacy, and practical problem-solving. His work has required mastering complex records, weighing competing arguments, and communicating clearlyโskills essential to appellate judging.

Service
Teaching, faith, and community
Scottโs commitment to public service extends beyond the courtroom. For nearly 20 years, he has taught state and local tax at the University of Washington School of Law, helping train the next generation of lawyers. He has also served his community through financial stewardship on the Saint Cecilia Church parish council, as an assistant scout master in his local Boy Scout troop, and from 2006-2015 on the board of the Western Washington Chapters of the American Red Cross.
Calling
A long-held goal: serving as a judge
Scott has long viewed judicial service as a goal – a way to bring his extensive legal and litigation experience to service on the bench. He believes the Supreme Court must remain a place where decisions are grounded in the Constitution, statutes, and precedent.

Independence
Independent.
Rule of Law.
Principled.
Scott values public service as truly independent counselโunattached to political parties or organizations, focused on the law and fellow citizens.
On the Washington Supreme Court, Scott will approach each case with disciplined legal reasoning and an open mind, recognizing that the Courtโs work shapes everyday life across the stateโfrom families and small businesses to local governments and community institutions.
โThe Court should decide cases based on the law and the factsโcarefully, transparently, and with respect for every person who comes before it.โ
Scott Edwards
Outside the courtroom, Scottโs perspective is grounded in family and community. He is proud to be a grandfather, and he often reflects on the kind of Washington he wants to help preserve for his granddaughter: a state where institutions are trustworthy, rights are protected, and people are treated with dignity.
